Out of all the people in the Honduras, sixty-three percent are extremely poor, living on less than 1 U.S.D a day. You can probably guess they don't have enough money to buy bottled water, or buy water pipelines to ship water to their homes! So that's sixty-three percent of the population without clean water.
Unfortunately, for native Hondurans, there came the year 1963. This was when the devastating Hurricane Mitch made landfall onto Honduran territory. It destroyed water pipelines, which were life-savers for Hondurans that were able to afford them. Another fifteen percent of the population now did not have access to clean drinking water.
Then there's the people that don't have pipelines in their homes. Women from these home walk hours a day, for many miles, to collect water. Where do they collect the water from? Polluted streams, brooks, and lakes. These bodies of water are polluted because of the livestock. Sometimes they go to the bathroom in it. The effects are waterborne symptoms, like diarrhea.
These are three examples of water crises in the country of the Honduras. The first one is about jobs and money. The second is about how natural disasters can cause water crises too. The third one is about people who are extremely poor, and how they get their water.
